Using the beach to help you keep fit not only allows you to enjoy beautiful scenery as you work out, but also makes you work harder than if you were at a gym. “But how?”, we hear you ask.
A 30 minute leisurely swim in the sea can burn over 200 calories, a half an hour game of beach volleyball can burn over 300 calories, and walking on sand burns up to 50% more calories than walking on a hard surface. It has also been said that when exercising on the beach, we generally spend more time exercising than at the gym due to the relaxed nature of the seafront. Who knew beaches were healthy?
It’s not a coincidence that we find it easier to sleep after spending a day on the beach. The sea air is actually charged with healthy negative ions, and these ions help to speed up your body’s ability to absorb oxygen, which in turn, helps you to sleep better.
But that’s not all that sea air does to our bodies – these healthy negative ions also balance the levels of serotonin in our bodies, a neurotransmitter that affects our moods and stress. This means that scientifically, sea air helps us to relax and destress – perfect!
Tasting fresh local seafood
With such a fantastic array of seafood right on our doorstep, we’d be crazy not to take advantage! It’s extremely healthy, tastes delicious, and is fresher and cheaper than anywhere else in the country. What more could we want?
The best part? It’s always readily available on the coast! From fish and chips to seafood salads, you are always guaranteed to get your hands on a delicious seafood dish by the sea.
Filling your weekends
We are never bored living by the beach, even when we have no weekend plans, there are endless amounts of things to do when we clock off work. Surfing, swimming, sailing, volleyball, football, sunbathing, walking along the promenade, fishing, painting, and dining – what more could you want?
And it doesn’t have to be a sunny day to spend time at the seaside! Accompanying almost any popular seaside town is an array of quirky trinket shops and cosy tea rooms to keep you entertained for the whole day.
